Why is it important to measure the strength of ceramic tiles?

The first reason for measuring the strength of a porcelain stoneware product is to assess the performance of the tile in relation of statutory requirements and above all considering the intended use.
The second reason is to do with design and process control.
Measuring strength is important to assess the success of the porcelain stoneware end product, its porosity and ability to absorb water or not.
The lower the porosity the greater the tile mass compaction and the greater the flexural strength which reduces as the porosity increases.
Reducing the porosity increases the full section of the tile, which combats bending stress.
